CUNY School of Medicine Welcomes, Honors Dr. Herman Gray at White Coat Ceremony
Dr. Herman Gray, Wayne Pediatrics president and chair of Wayne State University’s Department of Pediatrics, presented as the keynote speaker of The City University of New York’s School of Medicine class of 2025 Clinical White Coat Ceremony on August 10, 2023.
At the event, which saw third year medical students receiving their coats as a rite of passage into the medical profession, Dr. Gray was also awarded the CUNY School of Medicine Social Mission Award for his advocacy in health equity and children with special needs.
As the White Coat Ceremony’s keynote speaker, Dr. Gray spoke to the class of 2025 about joining the medical profession, the joys and challenges of practicing medicine, and the many opportunities open to physician leaders. During his visit, Dr. Gray met with medical students who wish to pursue pediatrics, senior faculty leaders, and administrative leaders.
Dr. Gray was selected by CUNY School of Medicine Dean Dr. Carmen Renee Green to speak at the ceremony and receive The CUNY School of Medicine Social Mission Award. “We are honored to have such a tremendous advocate for children, families, and healthcare equity who has done legendary work and led humanitarian efforts supporting pediatric health care and specialty care for children with special needs,” Dean Green said.
“I applaud the CUNY School of Medicine and Dean Green for their shared commitment and continued mission to address healthcare inequities in New York City, especially for children and the most vulnerable, and to increase diversity and representation in medicine,” said Dr. Gray.
