Dr. Colleen Buggs-Saxton, MD, PhD

Endocrinology

Dr. Buggs-Saxton is a board-certified pediatric endocrinologist specializing in the care of children and adolescents with diabetes and hormonal imbalances, which can affect the body’s growth, development, and metabolism. Dr. Buggs-Saxton also participates in clinical research to help find creative behavioral interventions for teens and emerging adults with type 1 diabetes as well as new therapeutic options for children and adolescents with type 2 diabetes.  She provides care for pediatric patients with a variety of endocrine disorders including:

  • Thyroid disorders
  • Puberty disorders
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome
  • Growth concerns
  • Pituitary disorders
  •  Adrenal problems
  • Type 1 Diabetes 
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Disorders of calcium
  • Neonatal diabetes
  •  Hypoglycemia

In addition to her role as a pediatric endocrinologist at Wayne Pediatrics, Dr. Buggs-Saxton is an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Physiology at Wayne State University School of Medicine, which allows her to participate in educating medical and graduate students as well as adult endocrinology fellows. 

In her spare time, Dr. Buggs-Saxton enjoys spending time relaxing and traveling with her husband Roger, creating floral arrangements/shadow boxes, gardening, and playing with her German Shepherd "Jaz", who ironically was recently diagnosed with diabetes and requires daily injections of insulin. 


Credentials and Education

Dr. Buggs-Saxton received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA and completed graduate school at Harvard University Graduate School in Cambridge, MA. She completed pediatric residency training from Children's Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL, and completed pediatric fellowship training at University of Chicago Children's Hospital and The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.
